FROM DR ROBERTS

NAPLAN is now completed for another year.  Again, I thank Mr Etheridge, Mr Kirkby and all teachers for the numerous hours in preparing the technology in readiness for the assessments and then for their preparation of students.  I also thank parents for ensuring their children were prepared on the day.

Harmony week is well underway and we enjoyed watching Wadumbah Aboriginal Dance group on Monday, that began our Harmony week celebrations.

We look forward to the TA 3 Assembly tomorrow and thank parents in anticipation of their attendance. We eagerly anticipate the variety of food that will be shared at tomorrow’s Harmony week International lunch.

The cooler weather was certainly welcome, while it lasted. This week has been unseasonably warm, with Monday beating heat records from 1939. Traditionally WA has magical Autumn days. We look forward to cooler days returning next week.

I always acknowledge the wonderful work undertaken by our P&C members and thank them for volunteering their time for the benefit of all our students.

SCHOOL PROCESSES – External Providers

External Providers:  If a parent wishes for an external professional e.g. OT, Speech Therapist etc, paid for by the parent, to work with the child while at school, the process is as follows.

1. Parent needs School permission.  This is ONLY given after Principal consultation with the Class Teacher (CT).

2. Once CT gives approval, then parent and providers complete documentation available from the front office.

3. Completed Documentation is returned to the front office and kept by the Principal.

4. The external professional negotiates with the CT regarding time out of class for the child.

5. While on school premises the external provider is accountable to the Principal.

Generally speaking, it is preferable for external providers to work with children outside of the school, but this is dependent on a discussion between the parent and the Principal.

PARENTS RUNNING LATE FOR SCHOOL PICK UP

Dear Parents & Guardians,

A friendly reminder to ensure your child knows what to do if their parent/guardian is not waiting for them at the siren.

While we do our best to pass on messages, we cannot always guarantee that late-afternoon calls will reach students in time.

Please remind your child that if their guardian is not waiting for them at pick-up, they should inform their teacher and head to the admin office for assistance.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe and informed!

THANK YOU HAWKER PARK P&C!

A huge thank you to the P&C for donating $5,000 towards our school sports equipment. We were able to buy a lot of exciting new things for the students.

We have given the children a lot more play equipment for recess and lunch.

The sports shed has been topped up with lots of new sports equipment too.

Thanks again!!

Kind regards

Tracey Barrett, staff and students.

WELL DONE MRS SHERRIFF!

Our wonderful TA3 teacher Mrs Sherriff participated in ‘Up all night’ over the weekend, walking a massive 42 km across Perth.

Up all night is a night walking marathon to raise much needed funds to help provide families a home away from home and fund services that support the well-being of WA families with sick kids.

Congratulations to Mrs. Sherriff! Walking 42 km overnight is no small feat, and it’s truly inspiring to see such dedication to supporting WA families with sick kids.

The $2,568 raised will make a meaningful difference in providing a home away from home for those in need. Well done, Mrs. Sherriff! 🎉👏

WADUMBAH ABORIGINAL DANCE GROUP

This week is Harmony week and we had the pleasure of welcoming Wadumbah Aboriginal dance group on Monday 24 March, sharing their traditional First Nation culture with us.

Wadumbah Aboriginal dance group help people understand and enjoy their ancient heritage through music, dance and storytelling.

Wadumbah means ‘Big Flood Waters’, and they truly live up to their name. Their presentation was spectacular, with their traditional Aboriginal tribal paint and dynamic dance style. Coupled with powerful didgeridoo playing and woven together with stories of dreaming, their show was outstanding.

James T Webb, a renowned didgeridoo player along with his grandsons and nephews, covered a range of learning aspects, from history, geography, language, dance, music, beat, roleplay, oral and body expression, story, cultural dress and much more.

AROUND THE SCHOOL

TA7

The Grieves family has a big heart for tiny paws! As dedicated kitten fosters, they provide love, care, and a safe space for kittens in need.

The kittens were gorgeous and the students learnt about how to correctly handle them, what they need to be well cared for, and what fostering is. We all loved getting to have cuddles with them.

Now these kitties are off to find their fur-ever homes.

TA6

TA6 are Buddies with both Kindy classes. Each week TA6 loves helping their buddies choose a library book, learn their letters and numbers, and complete art activities together. Here are some photos from last week when they created Harmony Hearts with their Kindy buddies.

Science

TA6 were busy conducting a science experiment this week. The experiment was the creation of carbon dioxide to make a balloon expand

TA1

Ms Rose’s class have been busy tallying and learning their numbers through measurement.

EC1

EC1 have been focusing on building connections with themselves, their families, and our community. As part of this, they worked in groups to build cubby houses, which helped them explore how houses can be both similar and different.

TA4

TA4 have been busy with activities all about crossing the mid line. It is important for the hemispheres of the brain to communicate with one another when they cross over, all working towards reading and writing skills.

MUSIC

In music students have been using their bodies to create movements and shapes, and keeping the beat using instruments.
