FROM DR ROBERTS
Bereavement: Yesterday we were informed, Cohen Tarry (the father of one of our students) passed away on 10 March 2025. As a school community, we are very saddened and have extended our condolences to the family. With permission, I have informed staff and spoken to all the students from Years 3-6. A Connect message was sent out yesterday to the whole school community informing parents and asking them to speak to their children where necessary.
Our thoughts are with the grieving family during this very sad time.
.
Since our last Hawker Headlines, we have had a School Board Meeting, the Parent Representative Meeting, the P&C AGM and P&C General Meeting and teacher Team Meetings. I thank all members, staff, parents and community members for volunteering their time to attend and contribute their ideas, for the benefit of our students.
NAPLAN for years 3 and 5 began today with writing. Tomorrow students will be assessed on Reading, Friday will be Language Conventions and next Monday will be Numeracy. We thank parents for ensuring children are ready through allowing rest, providing food and ensuring students arrive on time.
We thank Mr Etheridge, Mr Kirkby, Ms Randell, Mrs Everall, Mrs Barrett, Mrs Dobson and Ms Stokes – all involved in NAPLAN. In addition to teaching and other tasks, there is always so much time spent preparing for these on-line assessments such as annual on-line professional learning, preparing the devices and recording student involvement and more on-line even before the assessments begin!
We look forward to Harmony Week beginning on Monday 24 March and thank Mrs Everall for all her outstanding organisation to ensure an educational and fun week for all.
A huge acknowledgement to our wonderful parents and carers who model our values of Respect, Kindness and Manners. Our school has a beautiful culture where all can feel safe when values are adhered to. Together we Grow!

SCHOOL PROCESSES
At our school we use the Zones of Regulation to teach students how to regulate their emotions. The zones are Blue, Green, Yellow and Red. If a child is in the Blue zone, they may be feeling e.g. tired, sick, sad. If in the Green zone, a child may be feeling e.g. calm, happy, focussed. If in the Yellow zone, the feelings may be excited, frustrated, nervous, silly, worried. If in the Red zone, the feelings experienced may be angry, terrified, panicked. Very occasionally a child in the Red zone may be given a Red Zone Time Out for their behaviour.
Red Zone Time Out:
Unless a teacher has already given it, a member of the Admin Team investigates each case before giving a child a Red Zone Time Out. Should a child hurt another child, they are generally given a Red Zone Time Out meaning the child eats his or her lunch with other children and spends time after lunch in the office, out of the playground, reflecting on their behaviour. Parents/Carers are contacted by a member of the Admin Team to keep them informed and the behaviour is recorded on our school system.
Due to the many programmes, we have in place, including Philosophy, Values, Chaplaincy, SEN, Counsellors and Zones, very few children experience a Red Zone Time Out at our fabulous school.

DOGS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Education Department previously had a directive prohibiting dogs on school grounds. However, this decision now falls under the discretion of the school Principal.
At our recent class representative meeting, a parent requested that dogs be allowed on school grounds if they are carried by parents walking their children to school. Currently, several families walk their dogs to school and secure them outside the premises, which remains our preferred option.
However, in response to this request, Dr Roberts has approved a trial policy, effective until the end of Term 1, allowing parents to carry their dogs onto school grounds under the following conditions:
- Dogs must be carried at all times and must not enter classrooms.
- Dogs must remain at least three metres away from classroom doors.
While many of us love our furry companions, we must also consider that some children may feel anxious or fearful around dogs, regardless of how friendly they may be. We appreciate your cooperation in making our school environment comfortable and safe for all students.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
