FROM DR ROBERTS
What a beautiful assembly we were privileged to view last Thursday. The year 3 students were so confident and their message so relevant. The item was based on our school values of respect, kindness and manners but focussed on respect especially using respectful words. Thank you to Ms Stokes and Mrs Nolan for preparing the students. They were exceptional as I’m sure parents present would agree.
In today’s climate with social media, and, keeping in mind privacy issues, we have to be so careful what we post on-line. Parents and carers have long enjoyed photographing their child/ren’s progress at school. Today this often includes sharing the images on social media. When other students in the background are identifiable, there can be concerns if their parents/caregivers have not given permission and the images become public. Some parents and caregivers may have general privacy concerns about images of their children being posted without their consent. There can be real legal or safety concerns for the child or family concerned in some cases. Please keep this in mind when photographing students and posting on social media.
Parents, please be aware that schools are not public places and Principals are responsible for everything that happens in schools and school grounds. A reminder to everyone, especially parents who help at the school and in classrooms, that you must not take photographs or images of any child except your own and photographs taken at school should not be posted on social media if there is an image of another child, outside of your own, in the photo. Please do not name images.
In summary, please remember the following:
- when taking images, that they focus on your child only;
- images that may include other students must not be placed on the Internet or put on public display without the written permission of other parents involved; and
- to protect the privacy of all individuals, ensure no names are attached to any images placed on the Internet or on public display.
Thank you for your understanding and respect of other people. Please note that the Policy and Guidelines for “Photographing, Filming and Recording” has been put on the Website. Click here to be directed to all Hawker Park Policies https://hawkerparkps.wa.edu.au/policies/
We look forward to Friday when we will be celebrating the school’s 40th Anniversary. There has been an enormous amount of preparation for this special event and I thank everyone involved. We hope to see many of you at the function.

SCHOOL PROCESSES – SCHOOL AND FACTION CAPTAINS
During week 4 of term 4, Mr Etheridge and Mrs Dobson speak to the year 5 class about the responsibilities that are expected from students who become school leaders (School and Faction Captains). The students are given the opportunity to ask questions. They are informed that they need to think carefully about what is required from School Leaders and that they do not have to be a school leader.
Early November, nominations for School Captains open. This means that year 5 students may nominate themselves. Nominations close mid-November. Late nominations are not accepted.
Students who nominate, present a short speech to the students from years 3 – 6. Parents of nominees are invited to attend. Once the speeches have concluded, Parents leave, and the students vote.
Nominations for Faction Captains open towards the end of November and close a few days later. Late nominations are not accepted. Nominees for these positions present a short speech to the students from years 3 – 6 in their faction early December. Once the speeches are completed, the students in each faction vote for their Faction Captains for the following year. These speeches take place at school level and are for students only.

LEARNING ADVENTURES – SUARA DANCE INDONESIAN INCURSION
On Friday 21 October, students from PP – Yr.6 were treated to a fun filled and energetic afternoon of Indonesian dance, music and body percussion presented by Suara Dance Indonesia.
Ibu Alfira and Pak Bang took students on a journey across the archipelago, introducing a variety of dances from different islands and culminating in a group performance of body percussion dances from Aceh, North Sumatra.
These highly rhythmic body percussion dances, accompanied by drumming and distinctive chanted melodies, had students moving and grooving. The most popular by far was the Randai dance – a form of theatre, based on martial arts from West Sumatra, where rhythms are made by hitting large colourful pants.
Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the dances and learning about the diversity of Indonesian culture. A huge terima kasih (thankyou) to Ibu Alfira and Pak Bang for sharing their enthusiasm and passion for traditional dancing.
Ibu McAdam
Indonesian Teacher.
LEARNING ADVENTURES – LANDSDALE ANIMAL FARM EXCURSION – EC1 & EC2
The Pre-Primary’s had a fabulous excursion at Lansdale farm and learnt so much. Did you know …
- A worm has five hearts
- A chicken sits on her eggs for 21 days before they start to hatch
The children enjoyed a cart ride around the farm and engaging hands-on experiences with the beautiful farm animals.
They met the two little pigs, a steere, hungry goats, two donkeys’, noisy geese, rabbits, sheep and so many more.
A huge thank you to our fabulous parent helpers for making this happen.
